Swedish table ware with a Portugese twist..

A few days ago I saw an image over at sweet Kellie Collis' Ada & Darcy that reminded me to post about one of my favourite Swedish table ware companies - 'Mateus'. In fact I  even promised I would post about them in a post I did last year (HERE) ...So here we go..without further delay... :)

The Mateus products are (in my book) the perfect marriage between 'Swedish design' and 'Portugese craftsmanship'. And all pieces are hand made by skilled artisans, giving them a unique and personal touch - both in the slight imperfect clay-work and the colour application.

Apart from the obvious high quality and rustic uniqueness, what I love the most about Mateus are the amazing rich colours, wonderul shapes & textured patterns. They are fun yet elegant, and lend themselves to some playful mix 'n' matching & creativity.

New to me is their 'Shining Collection' and I would love to use this range for a New Years party. They would look wonderful in a mix with some rough untreated wood.. Perhaps set the plates directly on to a table made of rustic reclaimed timber with white table linen, good crystal and lots of candles..? I'd like that contrast.

Though Mateus is a little pricey, they are definitely worth the investment, and I am looking forward to growing my collection when I return to Sweden in 2011. In the meantime, all I can do is to ask you to join me as I drool over the fabulous inspiration on their website..
