Two lives.. Swedish style..

Two lives.. to abodes.. Both equally delightful, in their own right. Which one is you? Where would you rather live?

Tucked away, in-between the sparkly waters of the North Sea and the tall pine trees on a remote island in the Stockholm archipelago, is this divine little cottage.

How can one not want to pack ones bag and head over immediately - perhaps even permanently? I know my Swedish heart beats extra fast at the sight of a simple and warm hide-away like this.

The elegant yet rustic sleekness of the architectural bones are wonderful. Add to that the open dynamics and flooding natural lights, this tailor-made cottage is just heaven to me! In fact this here would be the perfect artist's escape - a place to rest, restore and paint or write!

Next, we catch the boat into the heart of Stockholm - arguably the most beautiful capital in the world. Nestled high above the rooftops we find a quirky attic apartment with a strong personality.

Similar to our lovely cottage above, this home basks in amazing natural light. It is indeed a very important factor to us Scandinavians, and something that we always notice where ever we are.
The slanted ceiling and deep window niches are beyond charming, and I really like how these original features are contrasted against an otherwise sleek and contemporary take on decor.

Who do you think lives here? There is in fact a child's room in the original gallery of images and I like the idea of a little cherub running around the open white space of this amazing apartment.
I also adore that massive built-in bookshelf, and though I could never bring myself to arrange my books by colour, I think it works very well here.

So which one will it be my dears? No 1 or no 2? Perhaps both..?

  2. Well Charlotta, this is a bit tricky.

I mean, you already know that I am torn between the town home and the country home, and now I have to make ANOTHER choice, between these 2 little beauties?

Well, I am going to be super, super greedy and say I will take both of them, along with the town home and the country home. Just imagine, on a whim, or a fancy, one could simply whizz across to one or the other.

    Sounds heavenly!

  3. Oh that's easy Charlotta. The attic for the week and the cottage for the weekend:) Now wouldn't that be a dream come true.

  4. I live in the first one already ;0) The surroundings anyway so that is more my style of life.

I grew up just beside the Mighty Fall's Storforsen that is Swedens highest untamed waterfall. Still have my cabin just below the waterfall.

  8. Hello! Hmm now this is quite tricky - I would have to say...BOTH! For a country retreat the cabin can't be beaten and for a city pied-a-terre, then it's the loft! I guess that wasn't an option!? It must make you homesick looking at these images, no? Even for me they make me think of Copenhagen as they have that Scandinavian style. Lou x

  9. I am surprised at my answer as I am an urbanite, but I don't like anything too modern and crisp so my answer is the Archipelago Escape. I started feeling inspired for the day from just looking at the pictures of this amazingly lovely place!! Completely in love with the rustic beauty and charm of the place! Gorgeous find!!

  11. IF you had have asked me this 10 years ago, I would most definately have chosen the attic home. Stylish. Welcoming. Perfection.
But now, for me, happiness is a 'family' affair - so if my boys are happy then I am happy. So the country/lake house is now my choice of these 2. Still stylish. Still welcoming. But much more 'perfection' for the whole gang.

note: I have that home in my folder of cutouts from years ago. loved it then. loved it now.

    Have a wonderful week (-:

  13. Ooh, my fave is definitely the first hideaway - anywhere near water is going to be my first choice! beautiful - wish i could escape there for a week!

  14. although i would love to be near water, it's the attic for me!

a few years ago we lived in a space with a resort-like vibe, very restful and natural and quiet. and i learned i COULD NOT GET INSPIRED. it was the oddest thing and one of the reasons we were led to move from there. the feeling that one is on vacation is nice FOR A TIME. but in my real life i need to be productive and sharp, and my environment made that nearly impossible.

GREAT FOOD FOR THOUGHT! GREAT POST! and oh, the natural light--must have it!

    hugs.

  19. Det är svårt att välja... Jag skulle gärna prova på att bo både i skärgården och mitt inne i stan. Och allra helst i något gammalt och charmfullt (och nu menar jag inte något som måste helrenoveras).

My choice would definitely have to be BOTH! I´m a big fan of Carouschka(the cottage must be one of her homes!?) but I also loved pretty much everything in the attic apartment!

  32. Hi Charlotta, thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my blog. Your comment is one of the sweetest I have come across. :)

Your blog is very beautiful and inspiring so I will be following yours, too.

Regarding both homes above, my choice is easy. I will pick both. I will have the gorgeous #2 modern home for the weekdays and the charming #1 home for the weekends. That will be perfect! A girl can always dream, eh?
