Restraint..

Hi darlings. How's your week rolling?
I came across this minimal loft in the renowned 'Flowerbox' building in the East Village NY and so want to hear your thoughts.. Zen or Zzzz..?

  3. I appreciate it though I´d like to add a couple of things here and there if I lived there, to cozy it up. :-)

  4. a little too minimal for me, i think it's veering toward zzzzz.
    {funny, the older i get, the less i'm into sparse...}

  5. It is Zen, however too sparse for me! Some great elements just not fully developed.

  6. I wish I could love it but it's too spare for me. I think it lacks personality, but I do love the windows in the bedroom very much x

  9. Well I think it is both, actually! Love some of the details - like the birds on the stairs - but overall it feels as if warmth and humanity is just missing for the sake of being clever.

  10. Hi, Charlotta!
    This loft is very elegant.
Love the birds on the stairs, they break the minimalism.

  11. I can see the appeal, but I like layers, and pattern, and texture, and patina and STUFF. I once sublet a place like this for the summer in DC. The owner said that "she lived a "monastic lifesyle" and I tell you, it about killed me with boredom. :)

  12. I would like some rustic rich wood to contrast with the white and black.

  14. I loved the exterior, the birds on the rail and the fireplace design. The bedding was a little too minimal for me. I appreciate the Zen style when I see it, but I couldn't live that way myself.

    Ps. Gillar din nya logga!!!

  16. Hi Charlotta,
Well I do think it is an amazing space, but to me it lacks any warmth and personality. That bedroom looks positively unwelcoming and not my idea of comfort.
I'd need to add another layer of personality!

  18. I am veering towards the Zzzzz...far to minimal for my liking on this one.

    Have a good weekend.x

  19. This is perfect for a hotel look, but not that cosy. I'd love it in summer heat but now that autumn is here I need some blankets and earthly elements in there.

Hope you'll have a great weekend Charlotta!

  20. Hello all and thank you for your comments.

It was interesting to hear your thoughts on this. It is a tough one to call isn't it. On one hand I love the feeling of quietness and tranquility here. A place to tip toe around in cozy socks with a big cup of herbal tea in hand.. but to live here.. Hmmm, not for me.
I too need sings of personality and life around me to feel comfortable. I am the kind of person who needs an aesthetic mess here and there to feel at ease.
It would however be nice to spend a weekend here for 'mind cleansing reasons' - a sort of 'de cluttering therapy'. All this Zen would make me ZZZZzzz well! :)

    xx Charlotta
