Workrooms on my mind..

School has recommenced after a long and much needed break for
my beautiful son Oscar. Though it has been magic to have him home
for so long and be able to spend some one-on-one time with him,
I am relieved to be able to go back to work on a couple of paintings
for local Clients. I am eager to get my workroom and myself in gear
and am generally dreaming about spaces like these..

Well I say 'workroom' but who am I kidding!? There would
be no working done here what-so-ever. Not with that view!

I love that crazy wall and the fact that the ceiling height
goes on for ever. A mezzanine level - yes, that is what I
need!! And a fantastic ladder like that! How brilliant!

A little too much like an interrogation room for my taste,
but taking the room apart I love the individual pieces.
Also this strict nothingness appeals to the very tired mother
in me.. No clutter. No mess. No piles of stuff every where.. :)

And yes, this is meant to be me (isn't for real tho'..) and
how I should be looking when I work (only I don't..).
Would love a space like this! Another fabulous ladder!
Lots of light through fantastic steel framed windows (my
favourite kind..) and a wonderful destressed brick wall.

My real studio / workspace is so small that I currently have to
paint in the dining room as the canvas I am working on is quite
large (1m x 1.2m). The lack of space isn't really because the
room is small, it's because my enormous stacks of stuff make it
feel very small. When we moved to this place we down-sized
quite considerably and I now simply don't have enough room for
my books, magazines, paper stock, canvases, paints... you know, bits.
It's actually quite nice to relocate temporarily and I find myself
quite focused out there in the dining room. Progress is being made.
Will share the painting over at my work blog once it is done.

I want this..

..to be my art studio!
Adore those inbuilt shelves - so gorgeous!

All I'd need to add is a large rustic table, a few mid-Cent
chairs, my easel, paints & brushes, stacks of canvases
music, coffee, and my fluffy white cat Busk..

P.s. May have to cut some French doors in that wall
on the left - a Swedish girl needs her light & fresh air..

Swedish kitchens..

Mr Gustav Johansson, knew the ingredients of a
truly great kitchen. Practicality, efficiency, quality
and aesthetics. Ever since 1923, when he built his
first custom made kitchen under the name of 'Kvänum'
these four principles have been the corner stones
of Swedish kitchens. A tradition carried on by Mr
Johansson's grand children even today..

The best wallpapers..

Don't you just love some of the works that the
kids bring home from daycare or school!?
(or your own art for that matter..)

Well I do, and I would love to have a great big
wall of blown-up art by Isabella and Oscar!

Here are a couple of good sources

Heather Bailey - sneak peek of my artwork

A little while ago I did a post about the fantastic works of Heather Bailey. I am excited to let you all know that I have completed my first artwork using the Heather Bailey paper stock that I bought.

It was commissioned for a young lady who lives here in Sydney (her brother ordered a cute 'Oscar Newspaper Pirate JR' painting).

As promised, here is a sneak peek..
The ears and tail are Heather Bailey paper, the body and rug are Anna Griffin stock. You can view the painting in full on my art blog. Click here please..

Also, I have decided to take a stall at the Double Bay Fete in October, and I am exhibiting a series of paintings under the name of 'Bird Song by Charlotta Ward'. As I particularly love birds and trees, this new series will focus on predominantly that.

The first painting in this collection has just been posted on my art blog as well, and there will be many more to come. A little pre-view below..

Full view of this painting on my art blog.

I am having so much fun with my birds and I am in fact off to the studio to do some more now. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty things from 'Plümo'

The latest issue of 'Living Etc' has a picture of
this great 'Kyoto bench' from a company called 'Plümo'.

The replica vintage kimono fabric is great,
as is the fact that there is a storage space under the seat.

I would love to use this and these other pieces in a kid's room.
Perhaps not all together in the same room,
however as part of a mix and to add that quirky twist.

On the whole I think the Far Eastern / Oriental influences
in children's design, interiors and art is fabulous.
Note to self: 'Do more of this in own art!'..

Little indians..

I was recently commissioned to convert a home-office
into a playroom for two little girls here in Sydney.

The key feature of the room is a mural of a tree that I painted.

This is the mural. I will load more pictures of this on my art blog soon.

As part of the extended decor,
we thought it would be great to include
a 'tee-pee tent' for the girls to sit in
(..under the tree, so to speak..).

Though we decided against the tee-pee in the end
(due to limited floor space),
I wanted to share some of the tent suppliers from my files.

'Banana J Creations'
This working mother of three launched her business and website
in memory of her mother who was a great advocate of 'imaginary play'.

Amongst the other products that 'Banana J Creations' offer,
the made-to-order tee-pee tents do offer just that.

Apart from the wonderful company philosophy
(supporting children's need to imagine)
I also love that I can supply my own fabric
and have a completely unique tent
made in line with my decorational needs.

The tents are collapsible hence easy to store,
they are washable (!) and made with light weight poles
that won't fall and knock your little Indian out (!!)..

'Annie B's Play Palace Tents'

These tents are made out of 100% Indian cotton
and are part of the 'Play Palace Pack' that consists of
the tent, 3 cushion covers, a PVC-backed seating mat,
and 7 matching drawstring bags.

P.S. These tents are great as 'bed canopies' as well!

'Rosenberry Rooms'

This supplier make custom-made tents in a range of gorgeous fabrics.

'The Well Appointed House'

Yes please!

'Net Kidswear'

These guys have a huge and varied assortment of tents.

Last but not least.

Here is a great home made tent/gazebo.
The reference is unknown,
but if anyone knows where it is from
please let me know.
Thanks.
