In love..

I just had to pop in and share pictures of my latest crush - a yellow metal cart coffee table by Scandinavian company 'Nordal'.

Though I am a bit over the so called 'industrial trend' this unique table really caught my eyes and would work perfectly in my living room. I am putting it on my wishlist for sure!

Nordal is one of my favourite Scandinavian interior companies and their collections are always varied and full of fun & quirky items. Their 'Spring/Summer' catalogue is no exception - just look at these colourful treats:

Woven basket bags in a bright pallet of colours. I'd personally love the green, yellow and corn blue ones. Perfect for the beach or Summery picnics!

This white cross-bar table would be the perfect addition to my kitchen dining area!
I currently have an old Swedish antique which has been in our family for three generations. It is divine but very impractical with the children and I really do need to get a more hard-waring substitute.
Please also note the fun 'Downtown' chairs and that divine floor.. Can one ever get past the perfection of limed herring bone floors..!?!

The chairs are made out of metal and come in 16 fantastic colours (!) and I would love to mix a few and team them with a more traditional table (like above). Perfect for a family room or informal kitchen dining area don't you think!?

I also fell for these little tables. How fun to mix 'n' match like in the picture above. Would also work a treat as a colourful and unique addition to a living room or hallway.

And just look at this 'country cabinet'. Of course it also comes in more traditional colours as well, but I really like the unexpectedness of this petrolium blue.

Ok lovelies, I'll be back in a few days with my next detox post.

Hugs and happy energy to all for now.

Oh detail, lovely detail..

Hello hello lovely people!
Today when lounging over at the fab Anne Sage's 'City Sage' I came across this picture that stopped me in my tracks.

Marie Claire Maison via the City Sage

The wonderful monochromatic inspiration of her post aside (yum also for the black cabinet in pic 3!), I fell hard for the way that the little gold ornaments on the left are hung. I really like the irregularity of the base vs the neatness of the top, and how it feeds off the colour and movement in the staircase.
I can see this way of hanging art working very well in my dining room. Perhaps even in combination with a simple shelf..?! Hmmm.. time to procrastinate... :)

Hugs from the North.

Eye candy..

After my last very word heavy post, I thought a nice parade of yummy eye candy would be just what we need.. Here's a collection of gorgeous images from all around our splendid 'blogosphere' this week..

There is something so fabulous about blowing big, really big, bubbles isn't there!? And I say this despite many (painful) memories of having to cut my hair because of bubble blowing competitions against my sister gone horribly wrong.. :)

OMG those lamps.. Just gorgeous.. as is the slanted roof and that arched door on the far right (nearly out of picture). Am also so into black bench tops at the moment.. Where are my Swedish genes?.. :)

Aaah, whispers of a tropical Summer.. Just can't wait for it this year. Somehow our Winter has felt extremely long and I am hanging out for the sun and warmth to return to Sydney!..

As morbid as it is to display beautiful creatures of the ocean in this way, they do look fantastic..

There is something so light, clean and inviting about this place don't you think.. Am a big lover of sheepskin and have plenty thrown about our house in Winter. Even our cat has her own sheep skin bed.

I love this picture - it makes me want to host divine Winter garden parties.. and of course, when I say 'Winter' I am thinking of Sydney.. Despite my petty complaints, the Winters here are quite mild here..

This is one of my favourite rooms.. I love the light elegance and eclectic mix of styles. Yum! Just take your time and enjoy all the details. It's just fabulous!

How great isn't this idea of dipping a basket in paint!?! I love it and am so doing this for summer!!

Speaking of which, I love the thought of iced tea served in silver mugs like this. So chic!

Just add bubbles (in a glass and in the tub!), a stack of mags and a 'do not disturb' sign for the door!

A girl never tires of this..

..or this for that matter! And the cat knows it..!

How cute is this idea for Summery pre-dinner drinks? So doing this as well!..

Though I could not live with this level of 'girliness' it feels so pleasing to the eye. Love the lightness.

Edgy statement art for the walls.. yes please.

..and speaking of art. I quite like these framed leaves too. Am not mad about the rest of the kitchen..

I like this idea.. Some things just work better in a little cluster..

Love this table and chairs.. Love!

Midnight blue dream - dramatic, elegant, edgy and chic all at the same time..! Yum!

Happy ending to the week my dears. Hope you have nice plans for the weekend.

Kids art as jewelery by Mia van Beek

What a cute idea for Mother's Day..

Having had such wonderful feedback, including a comment by
Mia van Beek the designer herself, who happens to be a good
friend and nearby neighbour of my lovely friend Lotta in the US,
I am updating this post with some more details of these pieces.

Mia, like Lotta and I, is Swedish and is a trained goldsmith
with focus on unique one-of-a-kind pieces with a contemporary
flair. Her bio is impressive as is her extensive range of pieces.

I can see a drawing like this for Father's Day. Perhaps as a key chain or money clip!?

Mia ships her work all over the world (including Australia. Yay!)
and you can browse her gorgeous gallery of both 'children's art'
jewellery and key chains, and fantastic adult pieces in her
Etsy shop, via her website 'Formia' or via her Facebook page.

Mia, thank you / tack for leaving a comment so that I could
find out more about you. I am definitely placing an order in
the not too far future. I hope that many others do too!

New Zealand paradise

Location location location!
This prefabricated cabin is owned (and designed) by architect
Andre Hodgskin and is located high up on wonderful Waiheke Island.
If you ever visit New Zealand do not miss this amazing island!

I just can't get over the setting of this house! Can you imagine!?

nz3.jpg
It is beyond stunning and I would possibly never get out of
the bed if this was my bedroom, however we are talking
Waiheke Island here and with it comes a wide range of gorgeous
wineries and very very friendly locals. No time to laze about..!

Handsome bathroom..

I love the timeless and simple beauty of this.
Especially the mirrors - stunning!

Fabulous bed with fringes on top..

I could sleep very well here!
Actually I would probably not leave the room at all.
Am so taken by the light, the amazing bead canopy and
those insane fringes on the throw!! Add the twigs in the
vase and I am so sold. This room would make me happy!

Lovely lakehouse..

I would love to have a lake house - more so than one on the ocean.
I grew up on a lake and love the tranquility it brings to life.
In summer we'd fish, swim, sail and waterski in/on the lake,
and in Winter we would ice skate on it. In fact I even learned to
drive a car on my lake in Sweden - at the age of 11! :)

Though my dream lake-house would look a little different from this
one, I just love the open white spaces and light that fills these rooms.

This house is located on a lake in Montauk, New York and was
designed by Murdock Young Architects - a firm started up in 1999
by Shea Murdock and Robert Young, and who have offices in both
Manhattan and Montauk.

lakehouse2.jpg

The house was designed for a close friend of the principals of
the company, and was created to suit a growing family. I love
how they have used their trademark sleek style mixed with local
materials and how elements of the structure are allowed to shine.

The white painted floors, large windows and drift-wood covered
storage units throughout the house are just fantastic and allows
the house to breathe and the light to travel across the rooms.
The massive panes of glass can be sealed off by mobile walls
fitted on the outside of the house. These fantastic windows also
offer uninterrupted views of the stunning scenery and the lake.

Design your own pillow..

An online company called 'Inmod' has a great
service where you can design your own pillow(s).

It is so much fun, but be warned,
it is also very addictive..! :)
Have fun, and don't forget to show me
your designs. Can't wait to see.

P.s. When you tire of the pillows..
go to the 'design your own bedding' option..
