Rie Elise Larsen of Denmark

I seem to be on some sort of strange Danish
colour quest at the moment - I know....
Not sure what is drawing me towards all
this vibrant splendour but I have a feeling it has
something to do with the fact that tomorrow
is the first day of spring there in Australia!?!
(I love that there is an official date to Spring!)
The gardens here in Sydney are exploding
with life and colour, with bushes and trees in full bloom.
show their stunning blossoms in a perfect
cocktail of pollens and re-born beauty...
The Jackaranda trees aren't far behind
and when they spread their divine lilac foliage
across Sydney then you really know
spring is truly here..

So maybe this is why my eyes
can't get enough  of the vivid colours right now..
... and why I simply have to show you these pictures
from Danish stylist Rie Elise Larsen collections.
A year after the launch of her very first home ware
designs, the range now also includes gift wrap,
Christmas decorations (I'll show you these later),
and other wonderful treats for your home.

Retro inspired rooms for children

Vintage and retro inspired wallpaper are great tools
for when wanting to create a fun and colourful child's room.
Here are three examples of fun & playful decors
using a crazy mix match of patterns and colours.

Here are a few examples of kid's furniture that have
been revamped with the use of retro wallpaper,
wrapping paper or other ornamental paper.

If you take on a project like this at home,
make sure you make a template of the
area you wish to cover, before you cut
the ornamental- / wall- paper.
This way you can fit the pattern to the
piece before you start cutting.

It is also a good idea to varnish the
piece once the paper is in place, this
way it is safe to wipe and keep clean
with a wet cloth & soapy water.
Ask at your local hardward store
which brand and type of varnish to use.

If you are a confident paper cutter you could
make your own wall designs a la the ones
by Ubris or Ferm Living.

So take on that old chest of drawers,
toybox, bed head, lampshade,
or table & chairs from IKEA.
Be bold, creative and have fun!

Please don't forget to show me your
creations once they are done.
I would love to see them so
please email me your pictures!

Best of luck!

Ink & Spindle - boutique screen-printing studio

The other day I fell in love with the fabrics by
Ink & Spindle boutique screen-printing studio.

As I wanted to share these wonderful hand printed creations,
I wrote to the girls who run Ink & Spindle to ask if
I could post them on my blog, and they said yes.
(Thank you girls!)

My favourites from their collection of hand screen printed
fabrics is are 'Birch Forest' (in organge or black)
and 'Blue Wren' (in charcoal or inky blue).

I would love to have large cuts of each of these to frame
and hang on the wall in our upstairs hallway and master bedroom.
Both of these would also translate so well onto wall paper,
and I would love to use them both in my work.

What is also very exciting is that I got an invitation to visit
their studio next time I am down in Melbourne.
I am so thrilled about this and can't wait
to see all this creative magic in real life!!

Until then, please see photographer Marcel Lee's
lovely pictures from the studio.

Ink & Spindle also provide fabrics for application
onto a wide range of items, and here are a few
highly tempting examples of this..

Fabulous Christmas present ideas, don't you think!!

Herzensart - sheep, vikings and other very cute softies..

'Herzensart' is delightful!
There is no other way to describe it.
From the cute little intro on how it all started
to the creations made and the studio itself.
All creatures they create are handmade,
and radiate humour and personality.
I particularly love the vikings..
they are hillarious...
and delightful!
